ALEX Davies has been named in the England Lions 50-over squad for the tour of India next year.

But the Lancashire wicketkeeper has missed out on a place in the Test party.

The Darwen ace featured for the Lions in their limited overs matches against Pakistan A and, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph earlier in the year, said he hoped to force his way into the Test squad.

But he has missed out, but his Lancashire teammate Tom Bailey has been rewarded for a stellar 2018 season with a call-up while Red Rose bowler Saqib Mahmood joins Davies in the 50-over squad.

Bailey, 27, signed a new contract at Old Trafford last week and was named PCA Championship Player of the Year after taking 64 wickets.

The Lions take on India A across five 50-over matches and two A Tests, the first fixture is on January 23 with the opening one-day match while the first of two Test matches gets underway on February 7.

Meanwhile, Lancashire pair Brooke Guest and Liam Hurt have extended their contracts until 2020.

Guest, 21, has signed a new two-year deal, while Hurt has extended his current contract by a further year.

Lancashire Head Coach Glen Chapple said: “Liam and Brooke both impressed for the second XI this summer, which led to Brooke being rewarded with his first-class debut at Hampshire.

"I'm really pleased they've both signed new contracts with the club and they'll be pushing for first team places in 2019.”

The pair are the latest to commit their future to Lancashire with Toby Lester and Danny Lamb penning two-year deals last week while Tom Bailey, Josh Bohannon and Rob Jones have also extended their stays at the county.
