CHORLEY golf star Nick Dougherty was hit by a back-nine blowout during his second round at the Volvo China Open.

Dougherty suffered a nightmare on the Beijing CBD International golf course as he ran up four bogeys and a double bogey while taking 43 shots over the inward half to record a seven-over 79.

That was a marked contrast to his first round efforts when he shot a 68.

He made birdies at the 18th – his ninth hole – and the first, second and at 15 to lie in joint second.

Despite his nightmare round, Dougherty at least made the cut by two at three-over.

Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie added a second consecutive 73 and sits alongside defending champion Damien McGrane (74) at two-over.

Ho-Sung Choi’s second-round 68 gave him a two-shot lead at the half-way stage, clear of Markus Brier and Chapchai Nirat.

Former Ryder Cup player Paul McGinley was the big mover, his best-of-the-day 67 putting him alongside Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (70) in a tie for fourth.
