A damp and windy day in Macclesfield, did not prevent personal bests by Chorley athletes at the North of England Track and Field competition.

The newly formed ladies 4x100 relay squad of Eluned Smith, Holly Ainscow, Anya Townsend and Kath Townsend achieved a brilliant fifth place.

New athlete Holly achieved a fourth place in the 100m A race, and went on to gain valuable points at 200m, javelin and triple jump events.

As always, Eluned competed strongly and achieved PBs in long and triple jumps, discus and shot putt. Junior Anya achieved PBs in discus and shot, but just missed out on top spot in the javelin.

Multi-event specialist, Ian Gouldthorpe achieved a PB in javelin of 29.01m, as well as very good results in 100m, discus, shot, long and triple jumps.

Just back from injury, Rick Cordwell and John Wright were happy to compete well in the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, as well as several field events. With all middle distance runners missing, Simon Townsend ran in the 800, 1500 and 5000m races.

The 4x100m relay team of John, Ian, Simon and Rick managed to get the baton around to just be beaten to 7th position.

The driving rain and thunderous skies warned off athletes for the final 2012 Chorley Park Series race although it relented more-or-less during the race.

Of those brave enough to venture forth it was marvellous to watch two Chorley athletes racing for first place with junior male Adam Sciacca eventually getting the better of Keith Johnston.
