CHORLEY boss Garry Flitcroft is hoping to complete the signing of former Northern Ireland international Lee McEvilly ahead of tonight’s high-profile friendly with a Blackburn Rovers XI.

The powerful striker, who enjoyed productive spells with Rochdale and Accrington Stanley earlier in his career, has been training with the Magpies since quitting Blue Square Bet North outfit Droylsden.

After impressing in last week’s friendly win at Euxton Villa, Flitcroft believes the 29-year-old can give his team an extra dimension as he targets a second successive promotion.

The Magpies chief said: “I’ve been keeping tabs on Lee for a while and I think he can make a real impact with us.

“He’s got a great pedigree and he has real physical presence, which is something we’ve been missing.

Flitcroft is also relishing the chance to take on Rovers having spent nearly 10 years with the club as a player.

“Myself and Matt Jansen have very happy memories from our time at Rovers so we’re really looking forward to this game. It should be a great test for us ahead of the new season.”

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.30pm.
