Cardiff boss Neil Harris is keen for Greg Cunningham to return to South Wales to continue his rehabilitation in the new year.
Cunningham has stayed at Rovers since his season-ending injury in October, despite only being on loan from Cardiff.
The 27-year-old made 10 appearances for Rovers since arriving on loan from the Championship side in August, but suffered a knee ligament injury at QPR on October 4.
He then underwent surgery in London, but was keen to undergo his rehabilitation at Rovers’ Brockhall training base, to which Cardiff agreed.

The Republic of Ireland international still has 18 months left to run on his deal at the Cardiff City Stadium, having signed for £4m from Preston in 2018.
He was out of favour under Neil Warnock, but new Bluebirds boss Neil Harris is keen for Cunningham to return to his parent club next month.
“Greg had an appointment in London (on Wednesday), to see the specialist. He is well on the pathway to recovery,” Harris told Wales Online.
“I think he’s a good player. He’s stayed up the road for family purposes, not just for rehab.
“He’s a player I want to touch base with to decide what is best moving forward.
“He’s not coming back before Christmas but I’d like him doing his rehab with us in the new year.”
