Rovers youngster Stefan Mols has signed a new two year deal at the club.

The Academy product, who joined the club aged nine, will now remain at Ewood Park until the summer of 2021 after putting pen-to-paper on his new contract.

The 20-year-old has been a regular for Damien Johnson's Under-23s side in the last three seasons and made his first team debut as a substitute in the Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Bury in September 2018.

Mols missed much of last season through injury, but, with his contract due to expire this summer, Rovers have moved to extend his stay with the club.

And Spanish-born Mols is looking to continue his development and follow in the footsteps of Tyler Magloire and John Buckley who have made the breakthrough to the first team this season.

“It means a lot to me as I’ve been here since I was nine and have progressed through the age groups,” said midfielder Mols, who can operate out wide or centrally.

“I’ve been aiming to get this contract and I’m thrilled to get it all sorted.

“I’ve loved every minute of being here and never wanted to go anywhere else.

“I’ve always wanted to get into the first team, that’s been my dream since I joined as a child.

“The goal is to be in the first team and I see no reason why I can’t make that step up, as a few of the other lads have done.

“Seeing the lads get the call makes you even more determined to be the next one in the first team.”

Mols becomes the latest Rovers youngster to commit his future to the club, following Lewis Thompson and Dan Butterworth.

Mols was one of a number of players out of contract this season, such as Charley Doyle, Jack Doyle, Matty Platt, Lewis Hardcastle and Joe Rankin-Costello.
