CHORLEY boss Matt Jansen wants his side to bounce back from their shock Lancashire Challenge Trophy semi-final defeat when AFC Telford visit Victory Park in the National League North tomorrow.

The Magpies, defending champions and heavy favourites for the Trophy, lost on penalties to Ashton Athletic at the County Ground in Leyland on Tuesday night after a 1-1 draw.

Ashton, who play three levels below Chorley in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division, will now face either Clitheroe or Radcliffe Borough in the final at Bolton's Macron Stadium in the first week of April.

Jansen admitted he was disappointed with his side's defeat but wants it to act as a catalyst for a run to promotion in the final weeks of the league season with Chorley currently fourth and targeting a play-off spot come May.

"I was thoroughly disappointed," said Jansen. "We want a reaction on Saturday.

"It is a rude awakening to a few and it will have hopefully given them a bit of a shock. We have 10 monster games left now and to start with we need to put it right against Telford on Saturday."

Chorley fell behind on Tuesday night to Paul Watson's 59th minute opener and although Jason Walker levelled with five minutes to play Jake Cottrell then missed the decisive spot kick as Ashton won through 5-4 on penalties.

Jansen added: "In all honesty the penalties were the best part of the game, there was only one missed and they were very well executed penalties.

"They came with a game plan and it worked. They let us have the ball and we played too much in front of them.

"They scored a good goal on the break and maybe could have had another. They dispatched their penalties incredibly well and good luck to them in the final.

"We didn't break them down we didn't make the right decisions. They sat back and they let us have the ball in front of them.

"If you let a team defend deep and you don't threaten them in behind or through the lines then they can soak up all the pressure they want if you are going to play in front of them. We were passing for the sake of passing and we were not ruthless enough.

"We needed to be clinical, when you get chances you have to finish them.

"But you also need to make the right decisions, be decisive, be clever and have a football brain.

"We were too direct once we went behind and we didn't mix it up. I thought we lacked a bit of football intelligence."
