ALBANY Academy Year 8 student Piper Stevens is making a big splash in the world of swimming.

Piper, a talented swimmer has recently been taking the pool by storm at her club gala held at Horwich Leisure centre on the January.

Piper came home with not one but five gold medals at the gala which is organised by the Horwich Leisure Centre Amateur Swimming Club.

This is a gold medal in each of the five disciplines she entered.

Her races included: 200m Individual medley, 100m Fly, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle all of which were in the 11-12 age category.

To cap off an outstanding performance, Piper was given the honour of Junior club captain as a result of not only her performances but her dedication to the sport.

Piper will now be an inspiration to all the other junior members at the club.

Piper will now compete in the county championships in February and spoke of her pride with her results.

She said, “I am so proud of how I performed and to be chosen as Junior captain just makes it even better. I am looking forward to another great year in 2017 and hope I can continue to improve.”

Head of Year 8 and 9 at Albany and Girls PE teacher, Gina Lewis, said: “Piper is a highly committed and talented student and this has been reflected in her outstanding achievements.

“We are extremely proud of her. She is a wonderful role model for all our students.”
