EUXTON Villa are riding high with the other pace-setters at the top of the West Lancashire League Premier Division table after two wins in their opening matches.

Mark McDonnell's side took the bragging rights after a tough 3-1 victory against local rivals Coppull United on Wednesday night.

Connor Gronback bagged a brace and Greg Johnstone's bullet header were among the goals while Daniel Fishwich was on target for Coppull.

Villa had started their campaign well with a convincing 3-1 win against league newboys Tempest United.

McDonnell said: "It was a good team performance as we scored with a chip by Rennock on his debut for the team.

"Then they pulled a goal back after an error by (goalkeeper) Sean Gibbs as he will have been disappointed not to make a save.

"We then started to dominate the game in midfield with Lee McKenna and Sam Bolton playing well and Bolton finished to put 2-1 up.

"Mike Galliers who used to play for AFC Fylde and Bamber Bridge played well and Jack Bennett helped to take control of the match.

"Then Greg Johnstone rounded it off with a 25-yard chip.

"It was a very positive performance and we have made five or six signings and the age of the squad is younger.

"We had a tough pre-season with tough games against the likes of Chorley and Colne so it was good to be facing someone of our level and we got the win.

"It is good to get a win and with Charnock Richard moving into the North West Counties League, I fully expect Longridge, Fulwood Amateurs and Blackpool Wren Rovers to be challenging for the title so a top six finish would be nice and a decent cup run but I would like to push for the top three."

Elsewhere Charnock Richard got their North West Counties campaign off to the perfect start with a 3-0 win against Eccleshall.

The Mossie Park Close side won thanks to Danny Smith scoring the first goal with Carl Grimshaw and David Burrows adding the other two goals.
