A CATASTROPHIC 15 minute spell just after tea sent Chorley tumbling to defeat at Windsor Park on Saturday.

A keenly anticipated derby clash was living up to all expectations as visitors Darwen recovered from 96 for 6 to post a total of 194 all out.

It looked finely balanced at tea, then when the home side recovered from the first ball dismissal of Ian Oakes to race to 27 for 1, things looked to be edging the way of Chorley.

But sadly, that was as good as it got as a big, sun baked crowd could only look on in amazement as within the next couple of overs, four wickets fell without further addition to the score.

It was hard to fathom.

The damage had been done and Darwen wrapped up a 77 run win, and their third victory over Chorley this term, with plenty time to spare and with the clock having not long moved past 6pm.

The defeat means the Windsor Park men lost vital ground in a very tight title chase, but they are still in the hunt, and have a golden chance to get back on track with a visit to basement club Preston on Saturday.
