I drove along the M65 the other day passing the stunning 12 metre high statue Arte et Labore by Tom Dagnall.

I think it's brilliant and a good silent ambassador for the borough.

Then there's the ones right in the heart of Blackburn on Church Street.

Transitions by Ian Randall. Boll, Gin, Mercer, Nep and Lumen.

All about the town and it's social, economic, industrial history.

At the top of the street the Woven Globe with a twin in neighbouring Darwen.

I'm personally not too sure about the light changing piece on Sudell Cross.

But that's what art's all about.

There will be detractors and Jeremiahs about these works.

But all confident towns have things we remember and associate with them.

I've always loved driving passed the Angel of the North and once detoured off the A1 to take a look close up. Stunning.

I love the Eric Morecambe statue commemorating the great comic on the Prom in Morecambe.

And of course, there's the Mannequin Pisse in Brussels. A little rude... but don't we all love it!

What do you think of our local art? What's your favourite nationally or beyond?
