RESIDENTS in Burnley were shocked when an unexploded grenade was found in the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
Police were called to examine the explosive device, which was found by a magnet fisher, and arrived at the scene on Lowerhouse Lane at around 11:45am.
Officers put a protective cordon around the area and say that a bomb disposal unit is on the way.
A police spokesperson said: "We would advise people to avoid the area whilst a cordon is place.
"Thanks for your patience."
UPDATE: The grenade has now been removed by bomb disposal officers.
