EAST Lancashire has reported another surge in coronavirus cases as the county prepares for further lockdown restrictions today.

Cases have increased in all six boroughs, will the Ribble Valley remaining to have the lowest infection rate in East Lancashire.

The rural district reported four new cases of the coronavirus yesterday, bringing the area's total to 262 cases.

Blackburn with Darwen has seen the highest daily rise in infections with another 30 positive cases, bringing the borough's total to 2194.

Hyndburn has seen a similar sharp jump with another 19 new cases, taking the total to 681.

Burnley now has 825 cases as another nine infections were recorded in the borough yesterday, whilst Pendle has seen a rise of 14 bringing the number of positive cases up to 1071.

An announcement is expected this morning (Friday 18 September) for Lancashire with further lockdown measures expected to be announced for the county.
