CHORLEY based craft beer company Hops and Shots have announced a new organic beer collaboration with celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and River Cottage.

The online platform specialises on buying quality beers straight from breweries, bottling them and then delivering directly to customers’ homes, with a range of rare and specialist products on offer to whet beer lovers’ appetites.

The new beers will include the Stinger Pale ale, made partly from nettles and the RyePA, made from organic Cotswold-grown barley.

A Hops and Shots spokesperson said: “The beer concept was inspired by the stinger beer Hugh and his team thrived on in the early days at River Cottage.

“Hugh, has great memories of foraging for the nettles - and drinking the beer - and has always been keen to explore more.”

“After hearing about Stroud Brewery’s ethical credentials and remarkable beer making capabilities, we were invited to bring Hugh’s vision to life.”

The company has found that during this year’s lockdown situation, beer connoisseurs have been more and more interested in their services, with pubs closed for much of the time, and hope that the new partnership will build on this.

Stroud Brewery meanwhile is one of the UK’s leading organic breweries with a sustainable and ethical ethos and as such presented itself as the perfect partner for Hops and Shots and Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Not only that, but the Chorley company was pleased to find they also shared many of the values concerning nutrition and sustainability with Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall and River Cottage.

Hops and Shots’ spokesman said: “Our values heavily align with River Cottage, we believe food should be grown, cooked and eaten in ways that enhance people’s lives and increase their well-being.

“We are also working hard to connect people more closely with natural, sustainable and ethical sources of food, so to be selected for this venture with River Cottage is a real highlight of this work.”

The beers are certified organic by the Soil Association and Vegan by the Vegan Society and are available in 330ml bottles and 30 litre kegs.
