This driver thought it would be a good idea to travel on the motorway on an out of date licence while also over the drink drive limit.
Police stopped the car at junction 29 of the M6, close to the turn off for the M65, after suspicions were raised over the insurance police.
When the driver produced his licence, officers discovered it had expired 14 years ago - in 2006.
A breath test was taken and the driver was also found to be over the drink drive limit.
The vehicle was seized and the man arrested.
A spokesperson for the police said: "Vehicle stopped on M6 J29 due to dubious insurance policy.
"Driver produced a driving licence which had expired in 2006, and was found to be over the drink drive limit.
"Driver arrested and vehicle seized."
