ALMOST 200 new cases of the coronavirus have been identified across East Lancashire in the last 24 hours, with infections sky rocketing in one borough.
Burnley recorded a whopping 75 new cases in Tuesday’s data, the highest number reported so far.
In total the borough, which has now become the first place in England to have an infection rate which exceeds 300 cases per 100,000 people, has recorded 1,223 infections.
Pendle recorded the second highest figure, with 32 new cases bringing the rolling total of cases in the borough to 1,372.
Next it was Blackburn with Darwen, with a new total of 2,651 cases following the discovery of 27 new infections.
Hyndburn’s total grew by 23 to 950 cases since the outbreak began in March and Rossendale’s by 27 to 672.
Six new infections in the Ribble Valley brought the borough’s case total to 335.
