ONE person has been taken to hospital after being caught up in a kitchen fire.

Two fire crews from Burnley and Nelson were called to a house in Queensbury Road in Burnley, and spent one hour putting the blaze out.

The fire started after a chip pan caught fire and extended to the rest of the kitchen.

One person was treated at the scene by firefighters for burns and smoke inhalation.

They were then taken to hospital via an ambulance.

A statement from the fire crew read: "Two fire crews from Burnley along with one from Nelson were called to reports of a house fire on Queensberry Road, Burnley this afternoon.

"On arrival they found the kitchen of the property well alight and one male casualty out of the property suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

"Firefighters tended to the casualty using a trauma pack prior to the arrival of ambulance crews and extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel.

"The casualty was transferred to hospital via ambulance and firefighters remained in attendance approximately one hour."
