A LANCASHIRE poodle has secured second place in the Crufts 2020 final.

Frankie, a four-year-old miniature poodle from Ramsgreave, near Blackburn, gained second place to winner Masie the Dachshund at the NEC in Birmingham.

But, it was Frankie who stole to limelight with his jumped on the plinth as Masie and her owner came forward for their prize as Melanie Harwood tried to get her little poodle off.

The miniature poodle did win reserve Best In Show for the second year in a row.

Previously, the duo were named as the Utility Group winner.

Best in Show judge Anne McDonald said the two dogs were examples of the best of their breeds.

Vanessa McAlpine, Crufts show manager, said: “We are thrilled to see Frankie and Melanie chosen as the Utility Group winner today.

“They should be very proud of reaching the prestigious Best in Show final for a second time – it’s an incredible achievement and one that not many get to experience in their lifetime."

The competition has seen around 20,000 dogs competing for only seven places in the final.

It is the 129th year of Crufts on Channel 4.

Winners Masie and her owner received a silver Keddall Memorial trophy - named after the show’s manager of 30 years - and a cash prize of £100.
