It's International Women's Day and women all around East Lancashire are celebrating.

The Lancashire Telegraph asked readers who their inspirational woman is, and we got some amazing responses.

IWD is a day to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history to the present day.

The first glimpse of it was in 1909 when the Socialist Party of America celebrated 15,000 women who protested long work hours, low pay, and the lack of voting rights in New York City.

From there, it spiralled across the world, and the day is now set as March 8.

Fashion designer Celine Zara Constantinides from Clitheroe, said: "The females that have inspired me the most aren't necessarily women of status, celebrity or societal influence, they are everyday women that have been a part of my life and guided me to good choices, supported me and helped me achieve things I have to date."

Squiffy Print designer and artist Jessica Robinson, from Clitheroe, very simply said: "Beyonce! How did she have twins via a c-section and still headline the Coachella festival?2

Shaheda Rashid from The Wish Centre could not decide on just one.

She said: "I could probably list hundreds if not thousands of people who are inspiring to me.

"Like my mum, my daughters, my managers past and present, and my mentors.

"Each person is very important as to why I am the person I am today."

Atiya Shah from Burnley, who runs her own Islamic stationery business, said: "My inspirational woman is mainly historical female role models such as Zaynab Binte Ali, who stood up in the court of Yazid and spoke up defiantly against an oppressive regime in such an impressive manner.

"She had just witnessed the martydom of many of her dear ones who were attacked by the army of Yazid."

Former nurse turned baker Michelle Davie, said: "My nanny and mum when I was growing up because they always looked after everyone.

"Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, and Princess Diana too, and Florence Nightingale, there are so many amazing women who have inspired meover the years."

Artist Beth Field had the cutest answer. She said: "My three-year-old daughter because she is so fierce and empowered.

"I would like to give her every opportunity for equality and to keep that fire and power her entire life."

Wedding dress designer Roxanne Halenko, said: "I'm inspired by real women with all different body sizes and shapes.

"I love to create something that works for their bodies, flatters them, holds them in, but most importantly makes them feel more confident and sexy."

Auditor Saima Ashraf, said: "The main female inspiration is my mum because she came here in 1976 with no formal school education only was taught the Quran and how to sew.

Then in 1991 she learnt to drive, again a first for females in our friends and family, and throughout my life I just saw her as a strong woman and a woman who always was the first to do many things even though she didn’t have a formal education."

Radiographer Nazia Khan also said her mum was her inspiration. She said: "I would probably have to say my mum!

"She inspires me because she’s always believed in me. Even though I missed 2 years of school due to chronic asthma, she always told me to do what I wanted.

"I was lucky enough that my parents allowed me to do all the things I wanted and allowed me to work in London after I qualified."

Drug counsellor Sarah Subhani, said: "Oprah Winfrey and how my mother is also my inspiration."
