VISITORS to Nelson will be walking on air when classic Christmas character The Snowman comes to town.

Raymond Brigg's loveable cartoon character, who comes to life and takes a little boy on a magical adventure, will be making a guest appearance as part of a programme of festive entertainment in Nelson and Colne over the next few days.

A French market was in Colne today and will move to Nelson for Saturday and Sunday.

Pendle Council's town centre officer, Ian Stackhouse, said: "It really is a great, fun shopping experience in a wonderful atmosphere, that's sure to be a hit with Pendle people who are looking for something that bit different".

Laneshaw Bridge School pupils were performing Christmas carols at Colne French market today between 2pm and 3pm and students from Fisher More High School will entertain visitors tomorrow.

On Saturday, The Snowman will be appearing in Nelson between 10.30am and 3.15pm and the Arden Youth Choir will be performing between 12.30pm and 2pm. Mince pies and drinks will be available from Admiral Market Place.
