A WOMAN who called police to a domestic incident ending up assaulting an officer.

Blackburn magistrates heard that when police arrived, Tracey Sweeney said that if they were going to arrest anyone it should be her and punched the officer in the chest.

Defence solicitor Basharat Ditta said: "Reluctantly, the officer followed her advice and she was taken to Greenbank police station along with her 18-month-old daughter.

"While one officer interviewed my client the other took the child to the police station canteen."

Sweeney, 30, of Dyson Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £35 costs.

Peter Wild, prosecuting, said the officer who was punched in the chest was wearing a protective waistcoat and had not been hurt.

He added: "It is fair to say the defendant apologised profusely for what she did."
