A SUSPECTED drug factory in Burnley has been closed down after police swooped on a house and seized more than 50 plants.

Officers carried out a raid in Moorland Road, Burnley Wood, yesterday morning, recovering 52 suspected cannabis plants from a bedroom.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis with intent to supply. He was later released on police bail pending the results of forensic tests.

Today PC John Fisher, new community beat manager for Rosehill and Burnley Wood, vowed to continue the fight against suspected dealers.

He said: "The suspected use of drugs within our local community, and the misery and concern this causes, will not be tolerated by police. Action will be taken and, where appropriate, people will be put before the courts."

The raid, led by PC Fisher and Police Community Support Officer Bill Ogden, followed information passed to officers by residents.

It comes after dozens of officers swooped on a number of houses in the town, including Burnley Wood, last month following tip-offs from the public. Police charged 21 people with a variety of drug offences.

PC Fisher encouraged anybody with information on drugs to contact police.
