LORENZO Amoruso could have played his last game for Blackburn Rovers after suffering a fresh injury blow which will keep him sidelined until the January transfer window.

The injury-cursed Italian, who has not played a Premiership game for Rovers since October last year, will have a minor operation to remove a bony growth on his ankle later this week.

The former Rangers defender is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks, by which point Rovers will be looking to off-load him in the transfer window.

As I understand it, manager Mark Hughes has decided he can afford to release the 34-year-old, who has made just 18 Premiership appearances for Rovers in the two and a half years since he joined the club in a £1.4 million deal from Rangers.

Hughes has plenty of cover at the back, with Aaron Mokoena, Dominic Matteo and Zurab Khizanishvili all providing strong back up for his first choice centre half pairing of Ryan Nelsen and Andy Todd.

That means Amoruso has effectively become surplus to requirements, which is why Hughes will listen to offers for him once the window opens.

Ironically, a deal was in place to sell him in the summer but that fell by the wayside when the veteran defender underwent a knee operation.
