Leyland Motors were the only local side to take anything from their game as Preston and Leyland both lost.

Home side Netherfield batted first with opener Walmsley making 55 before being bowled by Lillee, and they eventually declared on 189 for 9.

D Makinson and P Cummings, with three wickets apiece were the pick of the Motors attack. The Motors didn't get off to a good start, and at 52 for 6 it looked as though Netherfield's declaration was well judged, but a fifth wicket stand between Cummings and A Makinson earned them a draw.

Leyland were hoping for their first double of the season when they travelled to last season's champions Fleetwood. The home side batted first, and with a magnificent 108 not out from stand in pro Nagamootoo, the home side reached 208 for six. Adam Parker with two wickets and Steve Pallet with three were the pick of Leyland's bowling.

Leyland were soon in trouble, quickly losing opener Parkinson, and number three Wright. But former captain, opener Alex Mercer put them back on the road with 37 and shared a third wicket partnership with pro Adam Parker of 91. Parker was top scorer with 65 as Leyland were bowled out for 194

Preston entertained Barrow at West Cliff and suffered another defeat. The home side batted first and struggled along to 118 for 8 with opener Mann carrying his bat for 47. The opposition passed the total in just 25 .1 overs with opener Ikram Ullah top scoring with 59. Preston are now third bottom.
