BLOCKBUSTING striker Dave Shaw has signed for Lancaster City after finally overcoming a broken bone in his foot.

The 27-year-old postman has plundered the goals for Stone Dominoes in the North West Counties League and hopes to be able to make an impact with the Dolly Blues.

City assistant-manager Peter Ward knows Shaw from days of old from when he was in charge at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Says Shaw: "I am 27 and feel I am close to reaching my peak,so I want to play at the highest level I can."

He netted 18 times for Stone last season, but says: "I had a poor season with groin and hamstring injuries that kept me out for 10 weeks, but they are fine now."

Shaw was invited to pre-season training but missed out because of the now-healed broken bone.

"He is well worth a look," says boss Phil Wilson. "We are light on numbers this season so he will be good for us."

Wilson has also signed Stuart Howson to replace Paul Sparrow, who quit the club last week.
