I RATHER like to see tables and chairs outside the pubs and cafes along Morecambe sea front but I have to agree with Roger Marsh (Citizen, July 13) that plastic tumblers, instead of glasses, would be a wise precaution to adopt.

But I also have to say that the use of insulting language by people sitting relaxing in the sun is not a new phenomenon.

I was insulted by a group of women sitting on the doorstep of a caf in a village in Italy more than 30 years ago. My crime? I was wearing shorts.

Mrs S Morley, Morecambe.
