I was disgusted to read in the Citizen (July 14) about candles being stolen from a church in Preston city centre.

What kind of society are we living in nowadays, that people will even steal something as cheap as some candles.

But the problem is that this crime will not have been cheap to the church. No doubt they will be forced to make an insurance claim to pay for the damage or pay for the repairs.

A lack of respect is what leads to this type of crime. It's not a victimless crime, because kind people will be putting their hands in their pockets week in week out to keep that church going.
