MANCHESTER United captain Roy Keane stunned Dark Lane by making a 45-minute appearance in their 7-0 thrashing of Rossendale United last night.

The Irish midfielder, who has been left behind while the rest of the United squad tour Far East, played the entire first-half against the UniBond First Division side, with the rest of the line-up consisting of young reserve team players.

And Keane's run-out in the Rossendale Valley has added fuel to speculation of a bust-up between him and manager Sir Alex Ferguson during a pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Ferguson dismissed those rumours by claiming the 33-year-old was not included on the tour so he could rest a hamstring injury he sustained in training three weeks ago.

But his appearance against Mark Molyneaux's side suggests all is not well between Keane and Ferguson.

Keane, who was made captain last night but handed the armband to defender David Fox, has been training with the reserves and looks set to feature for them again at Walsall on Saturday.
