FAZAL Ali Perwez lied after being put on the spot as he drove his brother's car to a snooker club.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Perwez put his brother in the frame by giving his details but police eventually discovered that he had taken the car without consent.

Perwez, 22, of London Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to taking the car without consent, obstructing a police officer, driving without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence. He was fined £240 with £65 costs and disqualified from driving for nine months.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Perwez had been "incredibly stupid." He had been with friends and they decided to go to the snooker club. "It was raining and he bowed to pressure to drive them there," said Mr Taylor.
