THERE was a game, popular with the lads 100 years ago, called 'Sprang Jemmy,' 'Stick-knife,' 'Split the Kipper' or 'Knifie,' with derivations, originated from medieval days.
One interpretation is for the player to balance the point of a Scouts hunting-type knife on the back of the hand then chin and nose etc. Then moving skilfully and quickly, cause the knife to fall so as to stick with the point into the ground. The player who succeeds the most times wins the game.
I would be interested to know of anyone who recalls it or has taken part in this precarious pastime.
