CHILDREN in East Lancashire will be unwrapping better presents than their southern peers this Christmas, new research has revealed.
A study by Legal and General Insurance shows that Northerners are much more generous than Southerners when it comes to buying youngsters' Christmas presents.
On average, Northerners will spend around £216.12 on each school-aged child, whereas measly Southerners will spend only £143.15.
The research also showed that while men are willing to spend £252.16 on their partner's stocking fillers, women will usually spend only around £114.15.
The study was carried out in order to highlight the value of Christmas gifts and to warn homeowners to check they have adequate contents insurance over the festive season.
Andy Sampson, Legal and General Insurance head of marketing, said: "This research has highlighted that families across the country will have hundreds of pounds of gifts under the tree this Christmas.
"Sadly, the combination of dark nights and expensive gifts presents an opportunity for burglars."
