A FLY-on-the-wall TV documentary which followed the fortunes of an East Lancashire council is set to make a return to in 2004.

Granada's Are You Being Serviced?, broadcast in the autumn, featured workers at Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Now the series' producers have confirmed their interest in a filming a second programme in the borough. Granada said good viewing figures and feedback from the public helped them to make up their minds.

The television company is now in talks with the council to see if a second series can be made.

A Granada spokesman said: "The ratings were good, it seemed popular with the viewers, the council seemed to be pleased with it and it was a good opportunity for everyone.

"I think it opened up a lot of people's eyes to what kind of work the council does on their behalf and how their money is spent."

During the first series viewers were introduced to a range of council staff, including those at Newfield School in Roman Road and the register office team.

It also featured a Blackburn couple marrying for the third time and a punk concert at King George's Hall.

The new series looks set to follow the fortunes of the council's jetting crew for a second time. Pete Hardman and Derek Wilkinson, who work to keep the borough's drains clear, became firm favourites with viewers and even coined their own catch-phrase.

Pete was often seen telling his work mate, "I'll go an' get th'ook Derek."

The Granada spokesman added: "We are looking at revisiting some of the main characters and themes, as well as looking at new areas."

The programme managed to pull in an average of 500,000 viewers despite being pitched against the BBC's Eastenders.

The series is likely to return in late summer or early autumn.
