TWO men who bagged up illegal drugs for selling have both been jailed.

A court heard how officers found around £2,000 worth of heroin during their morning visit to an address on Edward Street, Nelson.

The two men arrested at the scene were each given prison sentences of more than three years.

Imran Khaliq, 24, of Elizabeth Street, Nelson, and Ali Hussain, 27, of Holly Street, Nelson, both admitted possessing a drug with intent to supply.

Preston Crown Court heard that police went to the house on June 10 this year and found the two defendants in the front living room. Police disturbed them in the process of preparing drugs for sale on the streets and discovered £7,000 in cash.

Just under 20grammes of heroin was discovered, worth around £2,000. Khaliq went on to tell police he had gone there to buy and smoke drugs. Hussain admitted he was a heroin addict.

Charles Brown, for Khaliq, said the defendant had been helping a dealer, in exchange for the supply of drugs to feed his own habit.

There had been no commercial motive. He had not used heroin since his arrest.

William Staunton, for Hussain, said he had been a hopeless addict and there was no intention of commercial supply on his part.

He was given a sentence of three years and nine months jail while Khaliq was given three years and three months.

Judge Andrew Blake said the two defendants had been involved in the "bagging up" of heroin.
