THE devastated family of a football fan who died after being found collapsed in a Rawtenstall street will say an emotional farewell at his funeral service next week.

The funeral of young David James Taylor, 25, of Greendale Avenue, Newchurch, is set to take place on Monday at St Nicholas' Church, Newchurch.

The cortege will be led by members of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club, which counted David and some of his family as members.

Hundreds of mourners are expected to pack the funeral of the well-known football supporter who was a regular face at Rossendale United FC.

David's death sent shockwaves through the Valley and united football clubs in the Unibond Division One, many of which held a period of silence in his memory.

His dad, David senior, 49, said: "We have asked the Rev Ron Phillips to do the Eulogy because he knew David and used to be our neighbour. We are expecting a lot of people to be at the funeral, given the response we had when this nightmare began. It's been a difficult time for us all."

David leaves mum Caroline, 46, dad David and twin brother James and Robert, 22.

David was discovered outside The Works hair salon, in Bank Street, just before midnight by a passer-by in July and he later died in Burnley General Hospital.

The family have asked for family floral tributes and donations to be made in David's memory to go to a charity of their choice.

The service will start at 1.30pm, led by Minister Charles Ellis.

It will be followed by a cremation at Burnley Crematorium. Family and friends have been invited to Rossendale United Football Club, Dark Lane, Newcurch, following the service.

Andrew McDonald, 18, of Granby Road, Manchester, will appear at Preston Crown Court on January 9 charged with the manslaughter of David. A trial date has been set for February 9.
