The suspect was arrested by officers following the terrifying incident in Rutland Street last night.

Detectives today confirmed a 20-year-old male was arrested by police after the 55-year-old victim was threatened, tied up and robbed at knifepoint.

The man was tied up and bound for around 15 minutes with a telephone cable and electric lead from a reading lamp by the raider. The robber then took a small amount of cash.

The thief escaped in the resident's Nissan Micra as police turned up.

Officers chased him but called off the hunt when they decided it was a danger to the public.

The man was later arrested after the stolen car was spotted and is now awaiting questioning by the police.

Inspector Jim Ellis, of Blackburn Police, said: "This was a very nasty ordeal."
