BACUP goalkeeper David Felgate has picked up the North West Counties Division One 'Safe Hands' award for January.

The former Bolton Wanderers stopper and Welsh international, who was snapped up by Bacup manager Brent Peters last month has helped the West View outfit to a derby win over Clitheroe in the League Challenge Cup quarter finals and to earn a valuable league point at Fleetwood.

Delighted manager Peters said: "It's a tremendous achievement for him.

"I know he's an experienced keeper but his professionalism has come through in earning this award.

"I've always had ex-professionals around me at non-league clubs and the theory that they are just there to pick up their pay packet is just rubbish.

"They've always been a credit to themselves and to the football club, and David is no exception."

He added: "He played when we beat Clitheroe in the cup and against Fleetwood he saved a penalty when we were 1-0 down.

"If that had gone in we might not have come back from that but in the end we drew 1-1.

"He's made some good saves and the lad deserves this award."
