THIEVES are on the prowl in the Redlam area of Blackburn -- and residents are being urged not to make life easy for them.
There have been 17 incidents of items being stolen from cars this month on the stretch of road just outside the town centre.
Sgt Mick Cross believes thieves are walking along the road during the day to spot opportunities, then returning the middle of the night to break into cars with goods left on view.
CDs, mobile phones and sun glasses have been the most common items stolen.
Sgt Cross said he thought thieves were targeting Redlam because of the amount of items left on view.
He added: "In this area there is a good class of houses with decent vehicles and we have identified it as a hot-spot area.
"We want to get the message out ensuring people leave their vehicles secure. A lot of people still leave items on display.
"We have had a 22 per cent reduction in vehicle crime last year and the message seems to be getting across, but people are still making fundamental errors which are attracting thieves."
