ROYTON Town resumed the leadership of the Premier Division with a 2-0 win over Dukinfield Town, wresting top spot from Prestwich Heys. Chris McKay and Danny Taylor scored the goals.

There was a nine-goal thriller at Mount Road, where visiting Leigh Athletic beat East Manchester 5-4. Chris Simm and Gordon Walker each grabbed two goals and Neil Clayton one for the Latics. Mike Kay scoried two for East, with Darren Green and Graham Burns also scoring.

Monton Amateurs stayed hot on Leigh's heels with a 1-0 win at Wythenshawe Amateurs when Dave Gardiner fired home the only goal. Irlam MS followed up their midweek cup success with a 2-0 victory at Atherton Town, where Lee McDonald and Nicky Irlam netted after the break.

Relegation worries were eased at Breightmet United where the home side beat Wilmslow Albion 2-1. Brett Metcalfe was on target for the Magpies and Carl Massa responded for Albion.

Avro put three unanswered goals past a spirited Swinton Town, to extend their lead at the top of the First Division to 17 points. Anthony Robinson, Colin Shenton and Pete Ambrose hit the mark.

Ashton Athletic and Heywood St James finished goalless, Rochdale Sacred Heart beat Stand Athletic 6-0, and Wythenshawe Town defeated Tintwistle Villa by the only goal.

In the Murray Shield, Old Alts won a thrilling match against AFC Blackley by 3-2 after extra-time. Chris Singleton, Ray Nevins and Dean Parkin scored for Alts, while James Hampson hit both Blackley's.

Hollinwood also marched into the semis with a 3-1 win over Unsworth. James Kelly scored twice and Mick Wall also netted. Paul Lyons gained consolation for the visitors.
