BARNEY the dog had a lucky escape after being trapped 20ft deep in a caved-in rabbit hole for over two hours.
His relieved owner thanked the fire crew who used pick axes to dig the terrified animal out.
It was revealed that massive cuts in government support meant that care homes all over East Lancashire faced closure.
