THE recent high winds brought several dead trees down in the Kirklees Valley along the steam, behind the Coffin Lodge.

On Sunday the Bury Society's team fished the first round of the Supercup 2004 against Bolton Angling Centre who hosted the event on Rumworth Reservoir.

After several practice sessions over the past few weeks the team felt confident and had mastered the day's venue which fished hard on the day.

Paul White had top individual place with 6-8-0 and team captain John Fletcher took third place 2-20--0, but unfortunately the team was beaten by a solitary point.

On Sunday fifty-five anglers fished the Pilsworth Fisheries Winter League.

Jonathan Jowett (Drennan NW A) fishing the bottom ponds had top weight 28-11-0.

In second place was Lee Addy (Drennan NW Red) 27-4-0 and third, P. Kieley (Drennan NW Red) 15-8-0. Fourth was Walt Gregson (East Lancs B) 15-3-0.

Drennan NW A head the league with 131 points.

The Tuesday Open held on Clarence Lido saw a drop in weights from the previous week despite cold overnight temperatures.

Top weight fell to M. Hargreaves (Bolton) 5-12-0. In second place was Dave Brierley (Fishermans Way) 3-6-0 and third, S. Gent (Fishermans Way) 3-1-0.

In the Bradshaw Fisheries Wednesday Open, fished on No 4 lodge, Paul White (Octoplus Blackburn) had top weight with 16-11-0.

In second place was P. Hodkinson (Edge Tavern) 9-6-0 and third, Dave Brierley (Bury) 7-4-0.

On Sunday, the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Riley Green was the venue for the Octoplus Blackburn Open fished by thirty-seven anglers.

David Chadwick (Tri Cast Highfield) had top weight in the rough conditions with all roach for 3-2-8.

In second place, Steve Paddon (Tri-Cast Highfield) weighed 2-11-2 and third, D. Whittaker (Deggy's Tackle) had 2-10-0.

FOURTH match in the Winter League will be held on Parkers this Sunday (February 15). Draw 9am fishing from10am to 3pm.

The club's next working party takes place on Parkers on Saturday, February 21 at 9am. Meet on the banks.

The jobs in hand are to strim the fieldside paths, repair the timber stillages, the hole in the bankside path caused by vandalism and level other bankside paths on the fieldside.
