ON the subject of proposed local boundary changes, I take issue with Coun Bill Taylor's view that the feedback from the people of Mellor and Langho (and presumably Wilpshire) is that they consider themselves to be part of Blackburn.

Whilst heading the Ribble Valley Schools for Ribble Valley Children Campaign in recent years, the clear message to me when people were faced with the possibility of their children attending schools in Blackburn rather than Clitheroe, was the complete opposite.

If Coun Taylor would like to undertake a more scientific survey of the areas affected by Blackburn with Darwen's proposed option, I am more than willing to accompany him on a door to door survey to test his "feedback."

If the proposed option goes ahead, perhaps we could re-brand the area, "Blackburn with Darwen and reluctantly parts of the former Ribble Valley."

On a serious note, I would suspect that Blackburn people are indifferent towards change. Darweners will feel further threatened by enlargement, and Ribble Valley residents will be opposed.

The only sure fire way of retaining the status quo, is to vote 'no' to a North West Regional Assembly, thus calling a halt to this unwanted bureaucratic madness.
