HOUSEHOLDERS on Brecon Road, Blackburn, were convinced their homes were about to become flooded when heavy rains saw several inches of water build up.
A local PC came to the rescue with his trusty broomstick which he used to unblock a drain resulting in a water free road for relieved residents.
And a motorist had a lucky escape when he narrowly avoided a two-foot wide, two-foot deep hole on Northgate Road.
