FOLLOWING the floods of last week may I suggest the return of a once familiar sight to the streets of Lancaster - namely the council 'drain sucker'.
On Moor Lane, one of the steepest hills in the city, at least six grids have been clogged not for weeks or even months, but years. So you can guess what happened last week.
The build-up of water, mostly from Williamson's Park, cascaded down Wyresdale Road, across East Road and down Moor Lane to who-know's-where.
The majority of blockages are caused by autumn leaves left to pile up at the kerbside, where they are joined by sand and other effluent left by less than diligent builders and DIY buffs.
I realise that if the 'sucker' lorry still exists it may be unable to get to some drains due to parked vehicles - but surely not for years.
