TWELVE students took part in tests as the Morecambe Kuk Sool Won school held its second grading evening.

The students of the Korean martial art which combines elements of karate, tae kwon do, tai chi and judo, spent around two hours on the mat showing their prowess from a range of body New students who successfully earned first 'yellow stripe' were Jason Lunn, Ben Watson, Ryan Hunter, Carl Frill and Barry Turtle.

And a second group, who have been training for around six months, were able to win their first change of belt colour from white to a full yellow belt. They were Alan Lydiate, Jamie Skedd, Nicola Skedd, Paul Regan, Simon Muldoon and Jason Hadwen.

The Kuk Sool Won school was only started in June last year under instructor John Ward, who has been UK Grand Champion on no fewer than three occasions and a World Championship Gold medallist.

He hopes to be able to send a small team to represent Lancaster and Morecambe in the European Championships in June and UK Championships in November - followed by the opening of a full time academy within the next two years.
