I FEEL I must correct the comments by T J Bradshaw (Letters, February 5) in which he was critical of councillors.

They refused planning permission to Mr Barry Tyson to brew nearly 600 pints of beer a week in a micro brewery in his garage in Pole Lane, Darwen.

Before making their decision the planning committee heard that the residents in Pole Lane and the surrounding area were overwhelmingly against such a development in what is a residential area.

There were other serious concerns such as access and storage.

They also heard that those same residents were not opposed to Mr Tyson's wishes to expand his hobby but that such a commercial development should be sited in appropriate premises.

The councillors at the committee agreed with this and offered to assist him in finding a more suitable site.

Instead of knocking his dreams as T J Bradshaw claimed, councillors went out of their way to offer Mr Tyson help to achieve them.

JOHN ROBERTS, Bosley Close, Darwen.
