I HAVE never felt the compulsion to write to a newspaper before in my life, but I was so annoyed when I read your article on January 31 about the play area on Water Lane.

I wish residents would take a little more interest in what goes on in their community instead of whingeing.

This area has been vastly improved in recent years by voluntary efforts and residents should congratulate the people who have been involved.

If any resident saw the excellent exhibition put on by Newrad Fisheries club at the library over Christmas, I'm sure that they will agree that what has been achieved in this area for all our benefit if truly outstanding.

The future projects they have planned will contribute greatly to the area. I for one would not have the time or the commitment to join these volunteers and I applaud them. Much of their work benefits the community, not just anglers.

I agree that the notification of the planning application made by Lodgeside Community Association could have been more detailed to allay any fears residents may have had, but people are human and do make mistakes.

I hope that your article has now allayed those fears and that the project achieves its aims.

How many people who attended the galas these two groups have organised can honestly say that they weren't excellent community/family days.

I thank these people for all they do for our community, there are very few who would take their place.

If a resident feels strongly about the activities or projects of either Lodgeside, Newrad Fisheries, Newrad Conservation or the Park Supporters group, then go to a meeting and join them, otherwise please stop moaning and let these groups carry on the good work they do.
