SIDELINED stopper Jamie Speare is hoping he can add the only piece of Accrington Stanley silverware he has missed out on to his collection.

The Reds' goalkeeper was absent the last time Stanley got to the final of the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy final because of suspension.

But tonight he is hoping to do his bit to put himself and John Coleman's side on the road to another winners' medal when they take on Radcliffe Borough at the Interlink Express Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

"We got knocked out in the semi-final by Kendal last season but the season before when we won the trophy I was suspended for that game," Speare said.

"That's probably the only thing I've missed out on winning with Stanley since I've been here.

"So hopefully we can beat Radcliffe tonight and get into the final again."

Although Speare is currently being kept out of the starting 11 by counterpart Jon Kennedy, the Liverpudlian is hoping to be involved against Radcliffe Borough tonight.

"It seems to work out that whoever plays in the league games the other goalkeeper is involved in these fixtures," he said.

"I'm going to have to bide my time again but it just shows how well Jon's been playing because of his recent call up to the England squad."

But being kept on the bench isn't the only thing frustrating Speare as the goalkeeper believes Stanley's disciplinary record is being taken out of their control.

"If you look at the foul play table then there are one or two other teams with the same amount of yellow and red cards as us, but we're the only ones being talked about," he said.

"We are getting booked for things when nothing more than a foul is being given for the other side in similar incidents.

"Personally, I think the referee has a look at where he is going on a Saturday and has a picture in his mind about what's going to happen.

"It's always at the back of your mind now because no-one likes missing games. Steve Hollis and Robbie Williams were on nine bookings before Saturday and both of them got booked so they'll be missing again soon."

Manager Coleman and chairman Eric Whalley go in front of an FA panel at 3pm this afternoon in Manchester when Stanley's disciplinary record this season will be assessed.

But, on a positive note, Speare hopes a win tonight will spur the Reds on for the rest of the campaign.

"The more games you win the more confidence you build," he said. "That goes into the bread and butter games at the weekend.

"Plus it gives the lads who aren't involved week in, week out something to play for."
