THE police have launched a hunt for a gang of men who hurled racist abuse at an Asian man in Chorley railway station.
The British Transport Police appealed for witnesses after the group of young white men singled out a lone Asian man and chanted racist remarks at him.
When challenged by a woman, the group chanted further obscenities and became abusive towards her at 6.15pm on Saturday.
Police Constable Christopher Haughton, of BTP said: “The behaviour of these men was outrageous and has no place on the railway or in the wider community.
“The abuse levelled at people who were simply trying to use the railway was unacceptable and we will do everything in our power to take action against those responsible.
“I am calling on anyone who was at the station at the time, or who has information about the incident, to come forward and help us trace these men.”
Call 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonym-ously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 442 of 20/03/10.
