Update: The road has now reopened

A rural road between Blackburn and Bolton has been closed due to a crash.

The crash, which happened around 7.00pm on Rivington Road in Belmont, involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which the driver lost control of.

The vehicle, which had four people in, collided with a grass bank.

Police and the ambulance service are in attendance.

Other motorists who saw the accident stopped to help and administer first aid and give the casualty water.

Officers at the scene expect the road to be closed for some time.

An eyewitness said the car had been "flipped around" and the car was in "an absolute state."

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 7pm yesterday to this collision, after a vehicle had collided with grass banking.

"Four people were in the vehicle, minor injuries only. The road was closed until 8.35pm."
