SCHOOL children presented an East Lancashire MP with facts about life in the world's poorest countries in a bid to win support for the Climate Change Bill.

Members of Billington's St Augustine's RC High School's Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) Action Group met with Greg Pope MP at his advice surgery in Great Harwood.

They presented him with a letter outlining how those with the lightest carbon footprint suffer the most from the effect of carbon emissions on the climate.

The pupils also urged him to support CAFOD in its proposed amendments to the Climate Change Bill, including raising the CO2 reduction target.

The group have received pledges of support from local churches and have also made presentations to staff at school and to all the year assemblies.

Mr Pope said: "I was very impressed with the presentation by the pupils and it was inspiring to meet young people who want to make a difference.

"I support their campaign to improve the Climate Change Bill by increasing the CO2 reduction targets and I am lobbying the Government over this.

"I've agreed to go into school to meet with them again in a few months time to discuss how the campaign is going."
